Performance Points
The OGA Player of the Year award will be given to the player who earns the most points through the calendar year. To be eligible for the award, a player must play in at least two (2) individual OGA events during the year. Players will earn points based on the scale outlined on the “Breakdown” page, which can be accessed using the Point System links above. During the season, players will be able to view the current year’s point standings on the Oklahoma Golf Association website. If there is a tie for Player of the Year, Co-Players of the Year will be named.
The Oklahoma Golf Association has established Player of the Year awards in the following categories: OGA Player of the Year, OGA Senior Player of the Year, and OGA Junior Player of the Year. These awards will be presented annually to the players who accumulate the most performance points throughout the calendar year in their respective division.
Additionally, the Men’s Player of the Year Points System will be used to determine the invitees to participate in OGA or OGA-selected team events, such as the OGA season-ending Cup Matches and the biennial USGA State Team Championship.
OGA Cup Matches: A Ryder Cup type event held annually in October between the Oklahoma Golf Association and our local club professionals. This is a two (2) day fun-filled and highly competitive event between twelve (12) of the State’s best amateurs and twelve (12) of the State’s best club professionals. Day one consists of two (2) team matches, 4-ball & Modified Alternate Shot, followed by twelve (12) individual matches on day two. Points earning period: The calendar year leading up to the event will be used to determine the OGA team. 9 spots will be determined by points with two (2) captain’s picks and the “playing captain” rounding out the 12 man team.
USGA Men’s State Team: Every two years, in odd-numbered years, the Oklahoma Golf Association selects three players to represent the State of Oklahoma in the USGA Men’s State Team Championship. Three-man teams from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, will play three rounds of stroke play in which the two lowest scores of each team count for their daily total. Although there is no tournament in 2008, players will still have the opportunity to earn points towards making the 2009 team. The top three (3) eligible point earners at the close of the points earning period will be selected as representatives for the 2009 USGA Men’s State Team Championships. Points earning period: August 1, 2007 through July 31, 2009. Points will double for these events: 2008 OGA Mid-Am, 2009 State-Am, 2009 State Am Stroke Play.
- General Eligibility for team events: Open to male amateur golfers who:

In all designated OGA team events, including those sponsored, sanctioned and/or selected by the OGA, the Association reserves the right to not select or invite any player(s) whose unbecoming conduct or actions are deemed detrimental to the traditions and high ideals of the Oklahoma Golf Association and the game of golf. Such determination is at the sole discretion of the OGA Rules and Competitions Committee. |
